Birthday Party!

Peach Blueberry Tart

The weather is finally starting to feel like spring around here, and the timing couldn’t be better. The daughter of our friends Craig and Shoko just celebrated her first birthday, and we threw a little party in her honor last weekend. She loves blueberries, so instead of a traditional birthday cake we made a peach blueberry cake (more of a tart, really) from a recipe on Simply Recipes (although apparently it’s originally from Epicurious). I’ve made this a few times now and it’s always a hit. Below is the menu for the party, an eclectic mix to be sure. Naturally there was also some homebrew. For the next few posts I’ll include photos and recipes for some of the dishes and beers. Enjoy!

  • Hot smoked salmon
  • Jerk chicken and pineapple skewers
  • Asian-style crab cakes with wasabi mayonaise
  • Fresh spring rolls with dipping sauce
  • Smoked potato and caper empanadas with cilantro sauce
  • Pizza with roasted garlic white sauce, prosciutto, and sage
  • Peach blueberry tart
  • Homemade vanilla ice cream

  • Traditional bock
  • Irish red ale
  • Brown porter
  • Foreign extra stout
  • Whisky oatmeal stout
